Male and female Long-tailed Manakins have very different plumage. During courtship, two males dance together, and the birds mainly eat fruit.
Adult males have a black body, a bright blue mantle, a red crown, and long central tail feathers. Females are dull olive-green, and young males resemble females before their adult plumage develops.
