The Guianan Red Cotinga lives in northern South American rainforest. Males are conspicuously red, while females and immatures have more olive coloring. A study in Suriname observed male display sites.
Males are dark red to reddish-brown, with a short crest and bright red rump and tail. Females and immatures have an olive back streaked with red and pinkish-red underparts.
At Brownsberg Reserve in Suriname, males displayed at a lek. Researchers recorded fruit at the lek and nearby; birds were usually solitary, and fruit was sometimes taken in flight or while hovering.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
