The Xingu Silky Anteater is known from dense Amazonian forests in Brazil. Its coat is predominantly gray, with a yellow patch near the base of the tail and a pale yellow underside. Brazil’s species assessment says its species-specific diet and natural history are not known.
The genus-level description gives Cyclopes short dense fur and a long prehensile tail without fur on its underside. In C. xinguensis specifically, the coat is mostly gray, with yellow near the tail, pale yellow underparts, a clear dorsal stripe, and an indistinct irregular ventral stripe.
ICMBio reports that no natural-history information was found for this taxon. Confirmed records come from dense Amazonian rainforest. The assessment notes that diet data are absent and explicitly distinguishes this species from a better-studied congener.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
