The Scaled Spinetail is restricted to Brazil’s lower Amazon. Its rufous crown and tail contrast with a scaly-looking pale underside. It searches for arthropods in flooded forest undergrowth and mid-storey, while breeding details remain poorly known.
It is about 14–15 cm long, with a pale eyebrow, dark-brown upperparts, and a rufous crown, wings, and graduated tail. The pale buff-brown throat, breast, and belly have dark feather edges that create a scaled appearance.
Pairs forage in várzea forest undergrowth and mid-storey, gleaning arthropods from bark and river debris and sometimes joining mixed-species flocks. Breeding remains poorly known; a reported nest description is unconfirmed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
