Hill's shrew is known from a few localities in Thailand and Laos. Records include hill forest and limestone areas, but its diet and activity pattern are not known.
The handbook describes one fluid-preserved specimen as uniformly dark brown, with a lighter tail and feet. Bristle hairs occur along about 70 percent of the tail.
Records come from 150–550 m in secondary hill forest, limestone karst, degraded mixed forest, scrub, bamboo, rice paddies and semi-evergreen forest. Diet and activity pattern are unknown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
