Nectomys apicalis is a rodent of the western Amazon. A study recorded it in mature forest close to streams at Peru's Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve. The paper also reports the western Amazon form from eastern Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil's Juruá region.
Its back is dark brown and finely grizzled with black and yellow hairs. The sides are paler and the underside gray; some individuals have a faint orange wash.
At Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve, captures of this species came only from mature forest near streams.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
