This small rat is known from its type locality in northern Sumatra. The account reports two specimens from lowland forest.
It is small, with long, soft fur. The back is yellowish ocher-buff, the belly light grayish cream-buff with a darker ocher chest stripe, the dorsal feet have silvery hairs, and the tail is blackish brown.
