Its back and belly range from ochraceous to golden yellow. Records are limited to a few eastern Andean sites in Ecuador and Peru, and the broad gap between them may be real or may reflect limited collecting.
Its short, harsh back fur is orange yellow to golden yellow, finely mixed with brown; the belly ranges from light yellow to deep gold.
At the few collecting localities, records include páramo or temperate plants, subtropical vegetation, cultivated land, secondary forest, and primary forest.
