This mouse lives on the Yucatan Peninsula, where coat color differs between northern and southern populations. It is described as mainly eating grains, seeds, and fruit.
Northern mice have brighter yellowish-brown to orange-brown backs, while southern mice are gray-brown to ochre. The belly is yellow-white.
It is mainly terrestrial and shelters near fallen logs, brush, and grass. Grains, seeds, and fruit are listed as its main foods, although its diet in the wild has not been well studied.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
