This tanager has dark plumage covered in iridescent blue-green spots. It occurs in Andean cloud forest from Venezuela to Bolivia.
Its dark plumage is densely covered with iridescent blue-green, scale-like spots, especially on the flanks.
In Bolivia's Yungas cloud forest, it forages from the mid-level to the canopy, alone or in pairs and often in mixed flocks. It inspects the undersides of thin branches for arthropods and also eats fruit.
