The Northern Black Bustard, also called the Northern Black Korhaan, is a ground-dwelling bird of open, dry country in southern Africa, with very different male and female plumage.
Males are mostly dark, with a bold white cheek patch and reddish bill. Females have a black belly and fine dark-and-buff barring above. A white wing patch is conspicuous in flight.
It usually walks while foraging and is seen singly or in small scattered groups. A displaying male calls while flying about 20–30 m above the ground.
It remains in the same region rather than making large seasonal migrations.
The legs are bright yellow. In flight, both males and females show extensive white on the primary feathers.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
