The Blood-colored Woodpecker is a woodpecker of the Guianas. A 1953 account from Suriname recorded it in coastal coffee plantations and dry sandy country inland.
The male’s crown and nape are red, and his back and wings are bright red; his underparts are blackish brown barred with white. The paper says the female’s crown and nape are brown rather than red, and her underparts are paler brown.
Haverschmidt recorded the birds foraging in trees and shrubs, usually singly or in pairs, in Suriname.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
