This tuco-tuco is known from north-central Santa Cruz Department, Bolivia. It is slightly smaller than the Bolivian tuco-tuco and has a heavier dark stripe along its back. Published accounts identify two localities: Esperanza and La Laguna, 10 km north of San Ramón.
The adult male in the original description was slightly smaller than the Bolivian tuco-tuco, with a heavier dark dorsal stripe. White on the underside was reduced to inconspicuous patches at the armpits and groin. Its incisors were broad and heavy, with orange fronts, and its premolars were very large.
The adult male collected at Esperanza in July1919 came from forest. A separate collection recorded one pregnant female captured in June.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
