The Guatemalan myotis was described from Cobán, Guatemala. Its taxonomic history includes debate over whether it is distinct from the related Myotis velifer.
The type specimen was described as smaller and darker-skinned than Myotis velifer, with differences in its skull and teeth.
A 2004 survey report said that the species’ specific habitat was unknown and that the survey found no evidence confirming its presence.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
