The Grassland Sparrow searches for food on the ground in open habitats in Brazil. A study near Campinas found nests at the bases of grass clumps, with two or three eggs.
Adults have yellow marks above the eyes and on the shoulder. A juvenile may show the yellow shoulder patch before the paired head stripes are developed.
It takes seeds and small invertebrates from the ground. At one plantation near Campinas, females incubated two or three eggs and both parents fed nestlings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
