This red-legged bird lives in forests and scrub of northern South America. It usually walks slowly on the ground alone or in pairs, searching for seeds, fruit and insects.
The back and wings are brown and barred, the chest gray, and the belly buff; the legs are rosy red.
It is shy and forages on the ground alone or in pairs. In dry forest and scrub it eats seeds, berries, snails, and insects.
The song consists of two or three notes that slowly rise in pitch.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
