Murina baletei was described in a 2025 study of Philippine tube-nosed bats. The paper includes specimens from Lubang, southern Luzon and Catanduanes.
The dorsal hairs are grey at the base and reddish brown to grey-brown at the tips; the underside is paler. In the study specimens, females were slightly redder dorsally than males.
Capture records in the description include remnant primary lowland and montane forest, secondary forest and regenerating forest. Bats were caught low in the understory with nets or harp traps.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
