This shrew was described from Sinharaja in southwestern Sri Lanka. The specimens have a dark gray-brown back and tail and a paler underside; records are limited to two forest-edge sites.
The described specimens have a dark gray-brown back and tail and a slightly paler underside. The slender tail is a little longer than head and body, with longer hairs near its base. Morningside specimens were paler than those from Kudawa.
The original description documents forest-edge collection sites at Kudawa and Morningside within Sinharaja Forest. These are specimen records, not a survey comparing habitat preference.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
