The forest tuco-tuco is a South American rodent whose coat varies in color. Records from northern Argentina describe several different local habitats.
The dorsal coat ranges from dark reddish to black or light brown. The belly is grayish brown to light brown and often contrasts with the back.
It is herbivorous and active both by day and night. In northern Argentina, records include streamside wet forest, high grassland, and flat areas with deep soil, depending on locality.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
