At about 9.5 cm, this is a tiny flycatcher of the Amazonian understory. Peru accounts report populations in northern lowland Amazonia and a separate central Peruvian area.
At about 9.5 cm, the male has a black head, back, and sides of the breast, with yellow marks forming a V on the middle back; the throat and most underparts are white. The female has yellow-green upperparts, a rufous crown, and gray sides of the head and breast.
In Amazonia it forages in thick understory foliage, especially along forest edges and at treefalls.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
