The Smoky Shrew changes coat color with the seasons. It stays active year-round on the forest floor and feeds on insects, spiders, and worms.
In summer, its back is yellowish brown and its belly pale brown. In winter, the back becomes dark gray and the belly silvery. It has a long snout and ears often hidden in the fur.
It is active through the day and night throughout the year. It eats insects, spiders, centipedes, and earthworms, and may nest beneath leaf litter or fallen logs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
