The Olive-backed Flowerpecker is endemic to the Philippines. Clements v2024 moves it from Prionochilus olivaceus to Pachyglossa olivacea. Throat and breast-side colour varies among subspecies.
Adults have a golden-olive crown and upperparts, with white at the centre from the chin to the belly. In subspecies parsonsi, the sides of the throat and breast are black.
It occurs in forest, secondary growth, and forest edges, and forages mainly in the understorey. The account often places it near flowering or fruiting trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
