The Large Hawk-Cuckoo is a migratory cuckoo found at forest edges and in secondary growth. It breeds farther north, including around the Himalayas, and moves south into Southeast Asia for winter.
Adults have a gray head, brown upperparts, a rufous breast patch, and a white, dark-barred belly. Juveniles differ in pattern.
It breeds around the Himalayas, southern China, and Indochina, then winters south through the Malay Peninsula, Greater Sundas, and Philippines. During passage and winter it uses forest edges, secondary growth, and mangroves.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
