This large rat is known only from the Da Lat Plateau of southern Vietnam. It has a dark blackish-brown back, a creamy-white belly, and lives in montane forest.
It is large, with sleek fur. The back is blackish brown, darkest along the spine and paler at the sides and limbs; the belly is creamy white.
It inhabits primary and secondary montane forest. The account describes it as omnivorous and terrestrial, and probably nocturnal.
