Neotamias siskiyou ranges from the northern California coast to central Oregon. Coastal and inland populations differ in coat colour, including the back stripes and underside.
Coastal animals are darker and browner; inland animals are lighter brown with pale grey to creamy undersides. Coat colour and density also change by season.
It lives mainly in dense conifer forests and uses hollow trees, spaces beneath fallen logs, and piles of leaves or woody debris for shelter and nesting. Mating is recorded after emergence from hibernation in spring.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
