The Gilded Barbet lives in forests along the foothills of the Andes in Amazonia. It has black facial markings and golden streaks; females resemble males but have more blackish and gold streaking.
A broad black streak runs from the bill base across the eye toward the back. The back is black with golden bars and streaks; the throat is orange and the underparts are yellow. The female has a similar pattern but heavier blackish and gold streaking.
It favors terra firme forest and also occurs in tall várzea forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
