This large cotton rat is known from high elevations in Ecuador. Natural-history information is sparse, and the records cited in the revision are concentrated at a few Andean sites.
The revision describes a large species whose short nasal bones leave the incisors visible when the skull is viewed from above.
Both Ecuadorian localities in the paper were páramo, and the authors note that natural-history information for the species is limited.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
