Nothura darwinii is a ground-dwelling tinamou of dry parts of South America. The nominate subspecies is recorded in the high, dry country of southern Argentina.
The nominate subspecies, N. d. darwinii, is small and grey. Its back has fine black vermiculations; the lower neck and chest are pale grey-brown with narrow dark crossbars, and the flanks have narrow dark bars.
In the lower Rio Negro Valley, it was reported from the high, dry, brush-covered tablelands around the valley rather than the moister, more fertile plains beside the river.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
