The small-toothed fruit bat is known from specimen records on Sulawesi, Indonesia. Those specimens document variation in back fur and in how the wing membrane meets the back.
Fur on the shoulder area of the back is brownish white, while the lower back is darker brown. The specimens also differed by sex in how widely the wing membranes covered the back.
In a 1985 field record, two bats were caught in nets set above a river. This is one collection event, not evidence of their usual flight height or behavior.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
