This hedgehog lives in arid parts of northern China. Its spines have a pale-brown base, a dark-brown band, and pale tips.
The spines are pale brown toward the base, have a blackish-brown band, and end in pale tips. The underside is whitish.
The account describes arid habitat in northern Shaanxi. Around Yulin it notes sparse trees, bare cliffs, yellow sand, and occasional sage scrub.
