This long-fingered bat has scattered records across sub-Saharan Africa. Its taxonomy is unresolved, and its full range remains unclear.
In the southern African assessment region, it is described as the largest of the three long-fingered bat species considered there. The name may, however, cover more than one similar species.

An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
