The Kashmir Nutcracker lives in coniferous forests of the western Himalaya and eastern Hindu Kush. It eats seeds of blue pine and chilgoza pine, among other foods, and is reported mainly at 2,000–3,000 m.
It is dark brown, with large white spots on the underparts and rump. The undertail coverts and lower belly are white, and the black wings and tail have white tips.
The account lists blue pine and chilgoza pine seeds as its main foods, along with other seeds and insects. It also reports eggs and nestlings of birds and larvae from bee and wasp nests among foods taken.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
