This tree hyrax is recorded in West Africa between the Niger and Volta rivers. Camera traps in southeastern Ghana recorded it moving near rock crevices both by day and at night.
The middle of its back is blackish gray, while the flanks and outer limbs are brindled dark and yellow-brown. A conspicuous patch of longer cream-colored hairs lies on the back.
On a steep hillside in Ghana, camera traps recorded it moving in and out of rock crevices in 22 sequences: 13 by day and nine at night.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
