Rothschild's Swift is a dark, sooty swift. It occurs above humid forests on the eastern side of the Andes, from Bolivia to northwestern Argentina.
Its plumage is nearly uniform and sooty, making the bird look dark from below.
Above humid forest, it may fly in flocks ranging from a few birds to more than 20.
In Salta, Argentina, eight cup or half-cup nests were found near waterfalls; seven had mud bases lined with green bryophytes.
Eggs collected at Tafí Viejo and Taficillo in Tucumán, Argentina, are white and unglossed.
At Quebrada de Tilián, one solitary nest and a three-nest colony were reused the next season, with repairs by November and chicks at colony nests in December 2017.
