Johanna's Sunbird is a sunbird whose males and females have different plumage. The male's head and throat shine green, and a 2022 survey recorded the species at a forest edge in Salonga National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The adult male described in the 1884 catalogue has a metallic green crown, face, and throat, a violet-blue band across the chest, a red breast, and yellow pectoral tufts.
During a 2022 Salonga expedition, observers saw two females and one male at a forest edge, then recorded three more birds at a field base.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
