This tanager occurs in the eastern Andes of southern Peru. It uses humid montane forest and bamboo near the treeline, where it forages in small groups.
It is about 15.5 cm long, and the sexes are similar. It is yellow-green above and yellow below, with a greenish-yellow eyebrow extending behind the eye and a stout bill.
It uses humid upper-montane and elfin forest near treeline, including patches of Chusquea bamboo. Groups of about 3–9 glean arthropods from bamboo and leafy understory and may join mixed flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
