The hero shrew is a large gray shrew with thick fur and an unusually strong lower spine. It lives in central African forest and eats small animals.
Its long, thick fur is gray. The lower spine has extra vertebrae and interlocking projections, forming a structure that resists compression.
It lives in low forest and wet places with dense undergrowth. Field stomach records included insects, caterpillars, earthworms, and frog remains.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
