This large fruit bat is recorded on islands in the northern Solomon archipelago, including parts of Papua New Guinea. It has a short black coat and sparsely furred forearms and lower legs. The 2005 revision notes that field information was limited and many records were museum specimens.
The coat is black on the back and underside and relatively short. Fur on the mid-back and tops of the feet lies close to the body; the forearms and lower legs are bare or sparsely furred. Breast hairs may have pale tips.
The 2005 author reported that the bat was rarely encountered and restricted to primary forest. Diet records were sparse: one observation described an individual eating green coconuts. This is a historical report, not a current population assessment or a complete diet study.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
