The Rufous Songlark occurs in open grassland, open woodland, and farmland in Australia. It moves south to breed in summer and returns north in colder months.
Males reach about 19 cm and females about 16 cm. It is brown and streaked, with a pale eyebrow and pale underparts. The rump and upper tail are rufous, with a dark line through the eye.
It feeds mainly on insects and small arthropods on the ground. The female builds a deep grass cup on the ground, incubates the eggs, and raises the young. The listed breeding season is August to February, with two or three eggs.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
