Holochilus venezuelae lives in savanna, with observations suggesting nocturnal activity. A study in Venezuelan rice fields found rice to be the main food at all crop stages.
The back is reddish brown and paler along the sides; the underside is buffy grey. The tail is nearly uniform in color and becomes hairier toward the tip.
Animals collected in Venezuelan rice fields had rice as the main stomach content at all crop stages. Young animals contained more invertebrates, while adults contained more rice seeds and stems.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
