The Five-colored Barbet combines a black back with a red head and yellow markings. It feeds mainly on fruit, also taking insects, in forests and at their edges.
Males have mostly black upperparts, yellow wing bars and a yellow V on the mantle, with a red crown and nape. The throat and upper breast are white, the lower body is yellow, and the flanks are spotted black. Females have yellow streaks above and more black spots below.
It uses forests and forest edges, including disturbed forest, and eats mainly fruit along with insects. The Colombia Red Book provides the regional account for Colombian populations.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
