The White-plumed Antbird follows army-ant columns while foraging in the lower forest understory of Amazonia. Adults have long white plumes along the face, and chestnut neck, underparts, and tail.
It is about 12 cm long. Adults have a chestnut neck, underparts, and tail, a bluish-grey back, and long white plumes along the face. Juveniles lack the white plumes and have an entirely grey head.
It forages close to the ground in the forest understory, generally following army ants and taking prey that they flush.
