This rat is known from Indonesia’s Mentawai Islands. It has a blackish-brown back and white underparts. The tail is longer than the body, blackish brown above and white or mostly white with dark-brown patches below.
The back is blackish brown and the rump darker. The white underside has brown chest patches and a brown mid-thoracic stripe. The tail is longer than the body, blackish brown above and white or mostly white with dark-brown patches below.
The 2017 species account lists tropical lowland rainforest with large trees as its habitat.
