This rice rat occurs in the Guiana region. It has a soft, long coat with a sharp contrast between back and belly.
Its dorsal coat is soft, dense, and long, usually rich ochraceous tawny but sometimes brownish tawny. The belly is typically grayish white with a sharp boundary. The dark brown tail is slightly longer than head and body and ends in a tuft.
In French Guiana, records came from primary lowland forest, including well-drained sites, creek edges, and swampy settings. Most were caught in arboreal trap sets; ground captures were rare.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
