The Dark Kangaroo Mouse is a small rodent that hops on long hind legs. It emerges from sandy burrows at night and may carry seeds in its cheek pouches to cache for winter.
Its fur is dark brown to black. It has elongated hind legs and a large head and ears that give it a rounded outline. The account reports little size difference between sexes.
It is nocturnal and emerges from its burrow after sunset, hopping on its long hind legs. It gathers seeds from the soil in its cheek pouches and may hide them as winter food. Seeds are its main food.
