This bird-of-paradise lives in forests on New Guinea and Misool. Its blue-black plumage has a blue-green sheen, and the feathers on the throat and upper breast look crinkled.
The sexes have similar plumage. The head, neck, and nape are blue-black, with blue-green V-shaped iridescence from the chin across the throat and neck; feathers on the lower throat and upper breast have fringed, crinkled edges.
It eats mainly fruit, along with insects and other small animals. On the mainland it uses hill and lower-montane forest; on Misool it occurs in lowland forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
