In records and photographs from 2012 and 2013, both males and females had long, dense bristles covering the nostrils at the base of the bill.
During brief observations in May 2013 in Yeniugou Valley, Qinghai, males and females fed on fresh leaves and stems of cushion plants on the ground. These short observations do not establish a year-round diet.
