The Andean Snipe inhabits wet grassland and waterside habitats high in the Andes. Pale stripes on its back and dark bars underneath help identify it.
Larger than Puna Snipe, it has rusty scribbles and pale or buff stripes across the back and wings. The entire underparts are barred black or dusky.
It lives in wet grassland and along muddy water edges at elevations of 2,800–3,600 m.
In Bolivia it uses shrubby puna grassland, cushion bogs, Chusquea bamboo and dwarf forest near the Yungas timberline. It is secretive and rarely seen unless flushed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
