This Sulawesi hornbill has a pale, yellow-stained face in males and black plumage in females. Fruit is its main food.
The male's white face can become yellow-stained by preen oil. The female is all black; juveniles resemble adult males but have a smaller bill casque.
It feeds mainly on fruit, with small animals such as invertebrates also eaten. Small family groups move in or just below the canopy; other group members are thought to help the breeding pair.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
