Merriam’s chipmunk occurs in central and southern California, including chaparral and oak woodland.
The back is gray or brown with dark lengthwise stripes. The belly and cheeks are pale, and the tail is bushy.
It forages by day on the ground for seeds, insects, and other foods, and stores food in autumn. It uses shrub cover in chaparral, oak, and pine woodland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
